Summary of Case:

"Carlos Weeks was wrongly convicted in 1993 of murder in Kings County, New York. Weeks' prosecution was based on the eyewitness testimony of two sisters who say they saw him shoot 21-year-old Frank Davis at street level from their 12th-floor window across the street. After his conviction by a jury Weeks was sentenced to 27-1/2 years to life in prison. A post-conviction investigation of Weeks case resulted in evidence that the sisters didn't testify truthfully. In 2017 the Kings County District Attorney's Conviction Integrity Unit agreed to investigate Weeks' case. The sisters were interviewed and they recanted seeing Weeks shoot Davis. Based on the new exculpatory evidence undermining Week's conviction, the DA submitted a motion to vacate his conviction and dismiss the charges. The motion was granted on December 29, 2019, and Weeks was released after 26 years in custody."
