Summary of Case:

"Michelle Wesson was wrongly convicted in 2003 of the 2001 death of her 14 year-old son. The boy died from septicemia, a blood disease caused by repeated exposure to harmful bacteria, and prosecutors claimed it was caused by unsanitary living conditions. However the appeals court reversed her conviction in March 2005 after noting that although one of the state's experts agreed that the death could have been caused by unsanitary living conditions, another agreed with the defense that the disease was caused by eating contaminated raw oysters. The Court also noted that the disease could have been caused by drinking from a contaminated drinking fountain at school or by a number of other causes."
