"Dr. Eugene West was wrongly convicted of murdering a patient, Addie Gilmour, on September 9, 1893 in San Francisco. He was convicted of second-degree murder on February 16, 1894 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. The California Supreme Court overturned his conviction and ordered a retrial. After his retrial in December 1895 he was acquitted by the jury after one hour of deliberation."
