Summary of Case:

"Darryl A. White Jr. was wrongly conivicted of weapons charges related to a shootout with police on the 4th of July, 2008. White was with two other men in a car who opened fire on three police officers who responded to a call to the 4th of July party. White claimed he wasn't armed and didn't know that the two men were armed and intended to use their weapons. On March 17, 2011 Maryland's Court of Special Appeals overturned White's conviction on the basis there was insufficient evidence to prove White was armed or that he knew the other two men were armed. His retrial was barred on double jeopardy grounds because he had been convicted on insufficient evidence. White was released on May 5, 2011 after 2 years and 10 months of wrongful incarceration. White filed a $30 million lawsuit against two of the officers involved and the Baltimore police department. White claimed that the police had planted a shell casing in the car after the shooting to make it look like a shot had been fired from the car. In April 2012 a mistrial was declared in the trial of the lawsuit."
