Summary of Case: |
"George White Jr. was wrongly convicted of armed robbery in November 1951 in Hunt County, Texas. White represented himself becasue no defense attorney was appointed. White's prosecution was based on an eyewitness identification by the victim. His defense was he was misidentified because he was in another state at the time of the robbey, but he lacked the money to hire an investigatator to prove it. After his conviction by a jury White was sentenced to 15 years in prison. White's prosecution was based on an eyewitness identification by the victim. White was pardoned by Texas Governor Price Daniel in May 1959 after the actual robber confessed. No compensation was awarded for White's 7-1/2 years of wrongful imprisonment." |
