Summary of Case:

"James Whitehead, was wrongly convicted in December 2006 of causing the death of a 23-year-old motorcycle rider while he was driving a lorry. Whitehead claimed he had started turning when the motorcyclist crossed into his path. In May 2007 the High Court quashed Whitehead's conviction because the jury was told about a 2004 speeding conviction and the prosecution argued the jury should rely on that to find him guilty in the death of the motorcyclist. Whitehead wasn't speeding when he hit the rider, and the Court said the trial judge's admission of the "speeding ticket" evidence was "extremely surprising" and "misconceived." The Court did not order a retrial, so Whitehead was released."
