Summary of Case:

"Anthony Whiting was wrongly convicted on November 17, 1973 by a jury of rape, burglary, robbery, assault, extortion and terroristic threats. After his conviction Whiting skipped bail and wasn't apprehended until 1976. He was then sentenced to a prison term of 5 to 10 years. On July 8, 1983 the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania overturned Whiting's conviction on the basis that the trial judge had prejudiced his trial by expressing his personal opinion about the credibility of Whiting's testimony and his alibi witnesses supporting his alibi defense. Whiting's conviction had been affirmed by the Superior Court of Pennsylvania in 1980."
