Summary of Case:	"Calvin Williams was wrongly convicted of first-degree murder in 1977 of a 1976 murder. Sentenced to life in prison. Williams was released in 1992 on the basis on new evidence proving he couldn't have committed the murder, and the murder charge was dismissed on August 19, 1996. Williams was wrongly imprisoned for 15 years and 8 months. In 2007 Calvin Williams became the first person awarded compensation under Louisiana's new wrongful conviction compensation statute. He was awarded the maximum of $150,000 on March 22, 2007 by a state District Court judge. In February 2008 the Louisiana Court of Appeals annuled the award, ruling that the judge had erred by not allowing the state Attorney General’s Office to question Williams under oath. They sent the case back to the District Court for a new hearing. Williams' $150,000 award was reinstated on remand. In 2012 Calvin Williams was awarded an additional $100,000 for his wrongful incarceration by the State of Louisiana after it increased its maximum payment to $250,000, plus an additional $40,000 for "loss of life opportunities.""
