Summary of Case: |
"Carmecita Williams was wrongly convicted of official misconduct for using information she learned as a police dispatcher for Greenwood, Illinois to alert someone to police activity near his location. Williams testified that she did not disclose any confidential information, but fabricated the information to provoke a response from the father of her 14-year-old son. On November 18, 2010, the Illinois Supreme Court unanimously overturned her conviction, ruling that there was no law requiring Williams to keep police information secret. Without a law covering her actions she can't be guilty of official misconduct. The Court ordered her acquittal." |
