Summary of Case:

"Randolph Williams was wrongly convicted in 2008 of second-degree murder related to a shooting in Kings County, New York in 2007. During his trial Williams' alibi defense was that at the time of the shooting he was 15 miles away at Coney Island with his girlfriend. After his conviction by a jury he was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. In February 2015, the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court, 2nd Dept. set-aside Williams’ convictions and ordered a new trial based on errors by the trial judge in excluding Williams from the courtroom during a hearing regarding whether a witness' statements to police identifying Williams' as the shooter would be admitted without the witness testifying. After Williams' retrial had begun, on March 15, 2016 Kings County Supreme Court Justice Alan Marrus granted the prosecution's motion to dismiss the indictment because their key witness couldn't be located to testify."
