Summary of Case:	"Jeong Won-seop was wrongly convicted in 1973 of raping and murdering a 9-year-old girl that had left home on September 27, 1972 to visit the comic book store in Chuncheon, South Korea that Jeong Won-seop managed. Jeong falsely confessed after being tortured by police interrogators. Jeong's conviction was based on his confession and he was sentenced to life in prison. Jeong was paroled in 1987 after 15 years imprisonment. Jeong petitioned the Seoul HIgh Court to be awarded a retrial. His petition was denied, and in 2005 he petitioned Korea's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. In December 2007 the Commission recommended Jeong's case for judicial review because his human rights were violated by the extortion of his confession through torture. After his retrial by the Chuncheon District Court Jeong was acquitted on November 28, 2008."
