Summary of Case:

"Gregory V. Wood was wrongly convicted of wire fraud in federal court in California. On December 10, 2007 the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed Wood's conviction on the basis he did not make a wire transfer "in furtherance of the scheme to defraud, and therefore the prosecution introduced insufficient evidence to support of his federal wire fraud conviction under 18 U.S.C. § 1343 (2006). Wood's charges were subsequently dismissed. On February 18, 2009 Wood filed a complaint in the Court of Federal Claims seeking $141,667.67 from the United States for his wrongful conviction, incarceration, and subsequent supervision by federal authorities. On April 20, 2009 the U.S. filed a motion to dismiss on the basis Gregory Wood failed to file a certificate of innocence as required to pursue relief for unjust conviction and imprisonment. On October 30, 2009 the Court of Federal Claims granted the motion on the basis it lacked subject matter jurisdiction because Wood failed to file a certificate of innocence."
