Summary of Case:

"Sean Michael Wright was wrongly convicted in July 2014 of attempting to elude a police vehicle on March 6, 2013 in Spokane, Washington. After Wright's conviction by a jury he was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Wright's appeal argued the prosecution failed to introduce any evidence the officer driving the unmarked police vehicle was in uniform at the time of the incident -- which is an essential element of the crime Wright was charged with violating. In its brief the State conceded the error that no evidence was presented the officer was in uniform, and that the evidence was insufficient to support Wright's conviction. On May 21, 2015 the Washington Court of Appeals by a majority (2-1) ruling reversed Sean M. Wright's conviction for eluding a police vehicle on the basis the prosecution failed to introduce evidence proving every essential element beyond a reasonable doubt. Wright was immediately released after 10 months of wrongful imprisonment."
