Summary of Case: |
"Evan Zimmerman was wrongly convicted in 2001 of murdering his ex-girlfriend in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was sentenced to life in prison. His conviction was based on the prosecution's claim that a single strand of hair found in the woman's van belonged to Zimmerman's dog. His conviction was overturned in 2003 and a retrial ordered. Exonerated in April 2005 after DNA testing of crime scene evidence excluded Zimmerman as the woman's attacker. He was aided by the University of Wisconsin Law School's Wisconsin Innocence Project, Evan Zimmerman was wrongly imprisoned for 3-1/2 years, and suffered a stroke while imprisoned." |
