"Ernst Zundel was convicted of spreading false news about the deaths of six million Jews in the Holocaust, In 1992 the Supreme Court of Canada quashed Ernst Zundel's conviction. In a 4-3 decision the court declared the law unconstitutional because it violated the guarantee of freedom of expression contained in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Zundel had previously been convicted of the same charge but that conviction was overturned on appeal and he was reconvicted after a retrial."

Section 181 of the Canadian Criminal Code was misapplied to Ernest Zundel's free expression of his opinion about the Holocaust.
